Meet Up at Gallagher Way - FREE TO ATTEND

Where: Gallagher Way – next to Wrigley field on Clark Street

When: September 28th, 2023 4:00-8:00pm

Who: Family friendly event! All ages welcome!

Join Twist Out Cancer and BWC Alum, Noah Plotkin & his band, Bowmanville, for a meet up at Gallagher Way on September 28th! Dance & socialize with the members of the TOC Chicago community as you enjoy the French Market!

Hailing from Chicago, Bowmanville strives to bring the hip sensibilities of Hot Club Jazz from 1930s Paris mingled with the influences born of Chicago’s global crossroads to a wider audience. Led by violinist Ethan Adelsman, with Graham Nelson on harmonica/vocals, Noah Plotkin on drums, Oliver Horton on bass, and Mason Jiller on guitar, the group draws inspiration from diverse musical backgrounds to push the boundaries of their craft, thrilling audiences nationally. Creating a simmering synergy of vibrant bouncing sound that crackles with electric energy, Bowmanville leaves listeners always hungry for more.

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear live music and enjoy the out door French Market! We look forward to seeing you there & we’d love for you to bring a friend. Share this event with your friends.

The Parenting with Cancer Pop-Up Writing Workshop

Parenting With Cancer: Personal Narrative, Prompt Style Writing Workshop (Free)

Tuesday, September 20, 1:30p PT / 4:30p ET (90 min)
Live (Zoom), 90-min Meet Up

The Parenting with Cancer Pop-Up Writing Workshop is dedicated to all those who have dealt with not only the trials of a breast cancer diagnosis but have done it while also wearing the “mom” hat. Neither job is easy — patient or care provider — and doing both at the same time can be overwhelming on a good day. So many decisions, so much to do when all you really want is to crawl under the covers.

Writing gives you the space to work through and make sense of what you are facing. Doing so in a group of others who understand can be life-changing. Join our September free workshop to write alongside other moms who get the daily struggles. It will give you a light to follow in a dark tunnel.

Expect Miracles Foundation & Sam Fund Grant

Spring 2022 Family Building Grant Application opens March 15!

Expect Miracles Foundation is incredibly excited to announce the return of our dedicated Samfund Family Building application for young adult cancer survivors pursuing parenthood. These grants provide support for processes including IUI, IVF, surrogacy/gestational carrier, and adoption. Maximum grant amounts are $4,000. All candidates (in addition to meeting the eligibility criteria below) should have obtained at least some of the necessary resources to proceed with their designated process; Samfund grants are intended to help move survivors on to the next level of their process. Candidates should also have a sense of the timeline of their process, and ideally it should be taking place within the next year. Those who do not have any sense of timing, or who are planning their process out more than a year, will not be funded.

In order to be eligible, applicants must be cancer survivors that are not financial dependents, between the ages of 21 and 39, live in the U.S., and either be:

a) finished with active treatment with no evidence of disease, or

b) one year past planned therapy with stable disease, or

c) In remission and on hormonal therapy (such as Tamoxifen), in remission and on long-term targeted molecular therapy (such as Gleevec or Herceptin), or in remission and on immunotherapy (new!)

The link to the Spring 2022 Family Building application will open and be available here two weeks from today on Tuesday, March 15. Also posted here are the Medical History Form and Affidavit (if you did not file taxes) so please start with those early!

Breast in Show: a virtual burlesque show and breast cancer fundraiser

Join us for a virtual burlesque and variety telethon to support Recovery on Water and SurvivingBreastCancer.org!

It’s October, and you know what that means - it's time for a plethora of pink ribbons and vague promises of “a percentage of profits” going to some unspecified “research”. Are you looking to help those affected by breast cancer a little more directly? Join Ramona Mourir and Greta von Tapp, two burlesque dancers and breast cancer survivors, as they raise money to support two of their favorite nonprofits: Recovery on Water and SurvivingBreastCancer.org! Both organizations provide continuous support and community for breast cancer patients, survivors, thrivers, and caretakers.

After last year’s successful in-person performance raised over $2000, the goal was to produce another live show this year. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 that isn’t an option, but we’re moving everything online!

Check out our telethon on Saturday, October 24th, starting at 7pm Central/8pm Eastern!

Tickets are $10! You’ll receive a link to the show via email ONE HOUR before showtime!
