Mark your calendar for this is a one-day, virtual workshop to address a major quality-of-life issue that comes up again and again in our community. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in my survivorship is that I’m allowed to ask for a high quality of life after diagnosis. It isn’t enough that I’m still here walking around the planet. For a long time, I didn’t realize that a life that includes sex & intimacy is something I deserve. I was thrown head-first into medical menopause with my very first chemo infusion. I didn’t think it could happen to me: I was 35 & had enjoyed an easy, playful sex life prior to cancer. I assumed it would be the same after a year of cancer treatment. That was not the case. I learned that “use it or lose it” actually applied to my vaginal health, and since then, it has been a long road of avoidance, anger & disappointment (with my body, with my partner) to finding the right community and practitioners to help me to experiment with different tools and through it all: learning to talk to my partner & listen to my heart & my body.

Don't miss this; you deserve it. Because survival alone is not enough.

Perkatory: Brewing Tough Conversations to Help Each Other Face Cancer

In 2024, we will host five Perkatory events ranging in relatable topics surrounding adolescent and young adult cancer. These events are open to anyone that would like to hear stories from the AYA cancer community (including patients, survivors, caregivers, co-survivors, loved ones, nonprofit professionals, medical professionals, etc.).

HOW PERKATORY WORKS:

Our Perkatory events are a chance to feature some of our writers and allow them to share their pieces about a certain topic aloud to an intimate audience of supporters and peers.

Perkatory is a safe space; an occasion to hear touching and vulnerable stories and yet another opportunity to feel less alone in what you are going through.

In addition to the featured authors, we highlight a different organization at each Perkatory event, allowing them the space to share about their organization’s mission and unique offerings.

The evening closes with a Q&A session, where audience members are able to ask questions to our featured writers, and thoughtful discussions can take place surrounding the overarching theme.

THE GOAL OF PERKATORY IS:

• To encourage individuals to use their voice • To learn more about a specific topic that might be difficult for some cancer patients to bring up themselves • To bring each other out of “perkatory” (a play on the word purgatory), to help live your best life

*THESE VIRTUAL EVENTS WILL NOT BE RECORDED*

Spring Sparks Writing Workshop with Wildfire

SPRING Series: "Sparks" Writing Workshop

Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11

$99.50 every month for 2 months

Personal Narrative, Prompt Style Younger Breast Cancer Small Group Writing Workshop: Live (Zoom) 6 Week Series ~ select your six-week session from the drop-down menu.

Want to write your stories but aren’t sure where to begin? Maybe you love writing but have a hard time finding the time or maybe you don’t write currently but would like to try. A prompt-style writing workshop is just the thing for so many people just like you. Prompts help you enter the page and guide your thoughts so you don’t have to stare at a blinking cursor feeling lost and discouraged. A workshop environment helps you create an on-going writing practice.

Give yourself the gift of writing in a community of others who understand being diagnosed with breast cancer younger. In this workshop, you’re never ‘the cancer girl’. Together we’ll write away some of our stress — and find some healing in the long run by using writing as a tool to find meaning. Some describe this group as therapy, some say it is better than therapy. Writing enables you to go deep and connect with yourself. Doing so in this group allows you to meet others who are doing the same. You’ll make new friends and fill a notebook along the way. Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer!

Each week:

  • 2 hour meet up

  • 60 minutes of writing (divided among different prompts)

  • discussion and sharing opportunities

  • participants diagnosed young with breast cancer from all over the world — US, Canada, UK and beyond

  • limited to 6-9 participants to foster a warm and safe environment with time for everyone to share (optional)

Writing workshop 6-week series (2 time options):

  • Wednesdays at 10a Eastern Standard Time / 7a Pacific Time / 2p GMT (6 sessions, 2 hours each): April 10 - May 15, 2024

  • Thursdays at 8p Eastern Standard Time / 5p Pacific Time / 12a GMT (6 sessions, 2 hours each): April 11 - May 16, 2024

Writing to Heal After a Secondary Cancer Diagnosis - Pop-Up Workshop

Pop-Up Workshop:
Writing to Heal After a Secondary Cancer Diagnosis

When: Tuesday, March 19, at 12:30pm PST / 3:30pm EST (90 mins)

Where/How: Live via Zoom

Cost: FREE

Why: Want to write about your experiences but aren’t sure where to begin? Maybe you love writing but have a hard time finding the time or maybe you don’t write currently but would like to try. A prompt-style writing workshop is just the thing for you. Prompts help you enter the page and guide your thoughts, so you don’t have to stare at a blinking cursor feeling lost and discouraged.

Did you get your cancer diagnosis and immediately think, “Again?! But I’ve already done this!” ? Our free March pop-up writing workshop is for you! We are focusing on those of you with a SECONDARY CANCER DIAGNOSIS.

This workshop is for you if:

- Your breast cancer diagnosis was not your first rodeo/brush with cancer
- You’ve been diagnosed with a localized breast cancer recurrence
- You experienced a metastatic recurrence
- You’ve now been diagnosed with a completely new type of cancer after your initial breast cancer diagnosis

We want to help you find your people and use writing to process the complicated feelings that come from doing cancer again. This is a prompt-style expressive writing workshop to help you write & process your cancer story in a new way - and connect with others who get it.

If this is you, please join me on March 19th for a free pop-up writing workshop. We will write together and start to heal via connection at the same time.

  • Dealing with scanxiety, depression and anxiety

  • Sex & intimacy (hello, vaginal dryness tips)

  • Managing treatment side effects

  • Wellness, health and nutrition

  • Fertility & family planning

Treat yourself to a getaway at the gorgeous Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and an event experience that prioritizes creature comforts and breathtaking beauty. We pack the weekend with learning opportunities, connection and playful activities, but you’ll still have time to take in the sights around Las Vegas and have a little fun.
